Ladies and gentlemen, we are back for another year of panino obsession, and let me tell you...these next few blog posts coming up will be better than the last.
I know you are all wondering where One Panino At A Time has been and what this glorious powerhouse has been doing, so l guess I will start by saying...this little panino head was heartbroken for a while and took it One Panino At A Time. Yes, that's right even a panino can be a little heartbroken too.
So for all those that are experiencing a little heartbreak, get yourself a panino, sit by the beach, and take it One Panino At A Time.
You're probably guessing who broke this little panino head's heart, unfortunately, it was a boy. That's right ladies, a boy, not a man, the experience was quite traumatic to say the least. However, what I have learned through all of this is that, if it ever happens to you, you thank them for the time you spent with them. Experiences like these teach you things, about yourself and the other person, I think I taught him to take it One Panino At A Time too ;).
So what did I do? Took myself to the woggiest Peninsula in Victoria bought myself some panini and thought "NEW YEAR NEW PANINO, CIAO!" So here I am 3 months later writing about Provincia Food Store located on the Mornington Peninsula (Safety Beach to be exact).
Let me start by saying the Mornington Peninsula is infiltrated with wogs from December all the way till February. Just think about the South of Italy in the Summer, that is exactly what this place is - Little Italy by the bay! Every year the retired Aussie's absolutely cringe when we hit town and run a muck, we secretly run this town ;).
I will give you a back story on why most eye-tais have a house on the Peninsula including yours truly...
Basically, our forefathers migrated to Australia in the 60s and 70s, they worked themselves to the bone to buy a house...andddddddd another one for the rest of the fam to enjoy in the Summer. Picture it, wog shacks, a bed in every corner and about twelve bodies trying to get the best seat in the house. This bordello would run for the whole month of January, thankfully the majority of us wogs still carry on this tradition.
My friends and I do this thing where we retreat to my beach house in the Summer like a pack of immigrants, fresh off the boat, and set up camp for the month. My best friend inspects the property as if something has changed in the last 40 years, to her surprise, nothing ever does.
I thank my grandparents for this prized possession.
But the most important thing about this time of the year is the food that everyone consumes and that is where Provincia Foodstore has you covered!
Without further ado let me introduce you to the panini that gathered the pieces of my broken heart...
JIMMY HENDRICKS
- Turkey
- Brie
- Beetroot Chutney
- Spinach Leaves
Guysssss I know what you're thinking - this isn't even Italian! A panino is anything you want it to be and they did just that. The sweet and sour from the Betroot Chutney, the creamy Brie with warm Turkey placed ever so delicately on a bed of Spinach and a fresh bread stick for the final touch, one wasn't enough. I had it toasted so just imagine how that Brie oozed out of that panino when I took my first bite ... CAZZO! (sorry Nonna).
CHICKEN AVOCADO
- Chicken
- Avocado
- Lettuce
- Mayonnaise
As the Italians would say simplicè, but effective. Toasted Chicken Avocado with creamy Mayonnaise and Lettuce to break up all that panino goodness. Just look at the mayo ooze from that hot bread. For all you chicken lovers this is a go to if you get overwhelmed by all the options that are available.
LA DOLCE VITA
- Roast Pumpkin
- Eggplant
- Zucchini
- Capsicum
- Provolone
- Pesto
Life is sweet ragazzi and it was even better when I took a bite into this vegetarian spec!
Think of sweet roasted Pumpkin mixed in with Zucchini and Eggplant sautéed with a bit of Olive Oil and Red Capsicum. That thin slice of Provolone complimented the smooth texture of the Pesto that kept my mouth watering for more. ANCORA!!
This small Italian Foodstore provides you with the most authentic groceries ranging from fresh fruit & veg, canned antipasto and their MVP is the cold meat section that has Prosciutto and Salami hanging from the ceilings.
For all you Aussie's that are looking for a bit of Italy in the Summer, Provincia Foodstore has you covered for all your wog delicacies, who knows you might just see me there next summer ;).
These guys are located at 154 Marine Drive, Safety Beach.
